Oh,what I would do to have
the kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I’m in
Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown
Where Jesus is,
And he’s holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name
and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
time and time again
“Boy, you’ll never win,
you’ll never win.”

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says “do not be afraid!”
and the Voice of truth says “this is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

Oh, what I would do
to have the kind of strength it takes
To stand before a giant
with just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound
of a thousand warriors
shaking in their armor
Wishing they’d have had the strength to stand

But the giant’s calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
time and time again
“Boy you’ll never win,
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

But the stone was just the right size
to put the giant on the ground
and the waves they don’t seem so high
from on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
singing over me

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
The Voice of truth says “do not be afraid!”
And the Voice of truth says “this is for my glory”
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the Voice of truth
I will listen and believe
‘Cause Jesus you are the Voice of truth
And I will listen to you.. oh you are the Voice of truth

Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

We’ve read them before in Reader’s Digest, Chicken Soup for the [insert] Soul, etc. Those tear jerking stories that talk about the poor person who couldn’t afford Christmas presents, the broken family who came together to realize true happiness, etc. It almost seems cliché as you read those stories each year.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Isn’t Christmas supposed to be a happy time? Of course folks who are down on their luck have it rough, but do we really have to read about?

Someone recently remarked to me that there’s “no moral value or reason to read tear jerking stories about the less fortunate during Christmas”. I disagreed with them. We read these stories for various reasons:

to remind ourselves of the unfortunate out there and how fortunate we really are

to remind ourselves to pray and help those who may not have the means to give their gleaming eyed children the perfect Christmas

to pray for those who are lost and in need of the salvation, help and love of Jesus

to remind us that even when we are at the lowest we feel we can go, there’s a God who watches, loves, cares and can change circumstances as He sees fit

So as you pick up your Christmas story this year, let it take you on a different journey. Ask God for eyes that will allow you to see the beauty of that Christmas story and what He wants to show you. Don’t have it be “just another Christmas story”, make it a story that will touch your life and compel you to do more for Christ, more for those in need of Christ and more for those in need of help — those less fortunate than you.

An update has been due on this site for a while now. And I do have some content coming up that may give this site a needed jump start. But in the meantime here’s some highlights:

I got an iPhone 3Gs. Still getting used to the device but it’s definitely been a boost for my connectivity and responsiveness. Let’s see if it will help my blogging too.

Relaunched My Conclusion with a new thrust and archiving old material. Worth taking a look. Should get interesting. And My Conclusion is also twittering in case you didn’t see.

Getting down to the wire on a big project but just waiting for a new logo and some imports and testing to be complete.

Gave OpenID a serious spin in the last few weeks trying to plug it into activeCollab. About 75% progress but still have a few issues to hammer out.

Going on vacation starting tomorrow for 3 weeks so maybe I’ll have more time to devote to my social life. We’ll see.

When dropping off our daily mail run at a local Post Office, I was duly informed by the clerk that I had to change the window envelope style to a landscape stype with the window in the middle of the envelope. (Ours is portrait with the window near the top left of the envelope — pretty common.)

I asked her if this was something new that just started and if she had any flyers or literature that would address this issue. The conversation became quite interesting:

Clerk: “That requirement has been around for years, we use machines to read the address.”

Me: “So do you have any flyers that state that the way I’m doing it is wrong?”

Clerk: “No it’s just we prefer it the other way”

Me: “So you won’t accept my mail if it’s not dead center and landscape oriented?”

Clerk: “We just prefer it as it makes our job easier”

Me: “So what you are saying is since you don’t want to manually sort my mail I need to redo all my envelopes and receipts? If you give me something from the USPS that I have to change it I will but not for convenience sake that’s what I pay for.”

Clerk: “I don’t want to have this conversation anymore”

You can probably deduct my opinion, without me ranting.

While reading about the events going on Iran, I was disheartened at the potential for loss of life in the current atmosphere.

An event like this becomes so important in people’s minds to the point that we forget about those around the world fighting & dying for a myriad of causes. Loss of life continues to happen all around us and some of it you never hear about, or even worse grow numb to hearing about over and over again. (When’s the last time you noted the death toll from a suicide bombing in Iraq?)

I was reminded of the following song written by Michael Fogarty and Chris Jung, and sung by Marianna Buhring. No matter what circumstances a life that is snuffed out, is a loss for someone.

Not Just One Life

Song © 2009 Aurora Productions. Used by permission.

Lyrics

Not Just One Life
Lyrics by Michael Fogarty, Chris Jung.
Music by Michael Fogarty.
Sung by Marianna Buhring.

Intro
Yeah
It’s not just one life.

Verse 1
On a cold dark night on a city street,
She hears a shot, then running feet.
Her heart pounds as she runs down to see,
She cries, ”Don’t let it be!” Yeah!
Reaching down, she holds him near,
She calls his name, but no answer she hears.
Gone are the hopes,
The love and care of all those years,
Only left are the tears.

Chorus 1
No, it’s not just one life,
Not just one out of millions,
It’s somebody’s father or mother or child.
No, it’s not just one life, stop! It’s somebody’s loved one
(Can’t you feel the pain?)
That’s been taken away. (Can’t you feel the pain?)

Verse 2
On a war-torn street with smoke-filled skies,
A shot rings out; a nother one dies.
Off in the distance, a young boy cries,
“Don’t let it be! Please don’t let it be daddy!”
One more dead, is that all it means?
Is it just another image on the TV screen?
Or the loss of the hopes,
The love and care of all those years,
Who will wipe his tears?

Chorus 2
Woh, it’s not just one life,
Not just one out of millions,
It’s somebody’s father or mother or child.
No, it’s not just one life, stop!
It’s somebody’s loved one.

Bridge
Every life is special to someone,
Behind every life is a story of love, yeah.

Chorus 3
Oh, it’s not just one life,
Not just one out of mil lions,
It’s somebody’s lover or mother or child.
No, it’s not just one life,

Chorus 4
Not just one life.
It’s somebody’s father or mother or child.
No, it’s not just one life, stop!
It’s somebody’s loved one.
(Not just one life.) No-o-o …

Twitter is cool and it’s a great medium for networking and getting realtime news, but the terminology surrounding Twitter can sound a little interesting at times. My all time favourite is Twibes, when you say the word you sound like you just ate a peanut butter sandwich and are in grade school. Twhirl, an Adobe AIR app for tweeting is a pretty decent name. But then there’s the actual Twerminology that really gets good. Here are my favourites:

Twaffic – Twitter traffic

Twead – To read something on twitter

Twaunt

Twouche –Someone acting like a big fat jerk via twitter.

And my all time favourite: Twerping – My son coined this one while I was surfing on my phone, I’m sure it has something to do with twittering at the wrong time.

For a more exhaustive list, here’s a great blog post: The Twittonary.

I was a little disappointed when they brought my curry with dried red chilli flakes all over it. I would have expected a fresh green chilli to add extra spice.
