- My Dad is actually blogging. Check his latest article: The Mundane, the Profound and the Profane.
- Got Compiz started today and it actually makes my work flow easier as moving between viewports is much easier than switching between desktops. It’s also cool to show folks the effect and have them ask “can I have that on Windows?”
- The Mvix series of multimedia players is a worthwhile investment in this day and age. Even if you have DVDs being able to have everything on a single hard disk is worth it as it lengthens the life span of your DVDs. The wireless/network features is nice on the 760HD though I’m looking forward to a firmware upgrade that will give me NAS (Networked Attached Storage) features.
- If you use FPDF the function GetY() may become your best friend when working with graphics and varied text.

1I’ve been running Beryl for some time now! Loads of fun and actually as you say, very practical.
I always used the multiple desktops, but this adds to it.

2I had been wanting to install it for a while but ATI Linux support is shoddy. I actually have to load up XGL first as a session in Xorg before I can load Compiz, and Beryl at present just crashes continually.
I’m looking forward to the two groups coming together as I think it will only enhance the experience and tools available. I guess we’ll see how long it lasts.

I hope you come to the BBQ on Sunday. Can you send me pictures of your family since you don’t post anymore?

4I have it running on my Dell Inspiron e1405 laptop sans problem. So far, no issues whatsoever. It’s an integrated video card, so that could make the difference…
I thot ATI was better supported then Nvidia….

5btw, you should try out the live CD of Mepis (My OS of choice). It comes with Beryl pre-configured and you can try it out if when at the login, you choose 3d desktop…or however it’s stated.

6I think I have a CD of that somewhere around here. Yeh Fedora 6 has it pre-configured as well. I’m still on Kubuntu and will stick with that as my OS of choice and am keeping my fingers crossed that the Gutsy Gibbon (7.04) will have it enabled.
ATI has some good open source drivers but Nvidia is much better when it comes to supporting OpenGL
